Lam Hua takes his Final Oath to Maryknoll

Lam Hua professes his Final Oath
The talking of one’s Final Oath as a member of The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers is the final step in a series of steps whereby one becomes a permanent member of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America.  It is a special rite that united a man as a brother in the Society, a foreign missioner and a dedicated servant of the poor.  It is an occasion to celebrate.  On Friday 31 May 2013 Lam Hua took his Final Oath during a special Mass celebrated in Queen of Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll, N.Y.

The oath taken by Maryknoll priests and brothers is a promise to consecrate one’swhole life to the work of the missions committed to Maryknoll and an oath of obedience
to legitimate superiors.  Lam took his Permanent Oath in the presence of Fr. Edward M. Dougherty, Superior General, his parents, friends and members of the Maryknoll family.  The special witnesses on behalf of he Society were Bro. Brendan Corkery and Fr.Michael Snyder.

Lam Hua was born in Vietnam and came to the United States at seven years.  His family settled in Tacoma, Washington and he attended the public schools there through high school.  He felt a call to priesthood and mission and took part in a special Maryknoll Mission program during the four years he attended St. Xavier College in Chicago.  He entered Maryknoll after college graduation in 2007 and did his theological
studies at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.  Lam spent two years in Tanzania ashis Overseas Training Program working in parish ministry and sacramental preparation.

In taking his Final Oath to Maryknoll Lam bound himself to Maryknoll and the foreign missions. On August 31, 2013 he will take another major step on the road to missionary priesthood when he is ordained a deacon by Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, M.SS.S. in his home parish of St. Ann in Tacoma.  He will minister as a deacon at Old St. Mary’s Parish in Chicago and will be ordained to the priesthood at Maryknoll, N.Y. next year.

Discovering the Path to Priesthood

Dae Kim, M.M.
Isaiah was ministering in the temple when he heard God's call to serve.  Paul was persecuting the Church when Christ changed the direction of his life. Matthew was collecting taxes, while Peter and his brother were fishing when Jesus invited them to follow him.  Maryknoll seminarian Dae Wook Kim was not spared: he answered the call to become a missioner while bowling.
